Application for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education major now open at WOU

Good Afternoon!

My name is Dr. Patrick Graham, and I am coordinating the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Program here at Western Oregon University. I am excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our 2019-2021 cohort. Please send this e-mail to your friends, your colleagues, or anyone who may be interested.

Please let them know that:

All of our students who have graduated have gotten full time jobs immediately after graduation, or were already working as teachers while they were obtaining their degrees.

If you are interested in the program, please have your application submitted by April 1st, 2019. Also, please send me an e-mail expressing your interest, so I can have it in my file. We are only accepting 20 seats in the program, so first come, first serve.

A few things about this program. This program starts in the summer of 2019. Students will have two face to face courses for two weeks, and then the students will be online the rest of the summer, and have only online courses for the fall, winter, and spring. The second summer, students will meet again face to face for two weeks, and then will take their last courses in the fall of 2020. Winter and Spring of 2021 are student teaching placements, and then graduation is in June of 2021. Many of our students say that it is such a whirlwind, and they are very sad to be finished because we have so much fun!

The first thing you will need to do is apply into graduate college. Once you have applied into graduate college and have been accepted, you will be given a program application. Part of your program application is providing us with your sign language proficiency results. We require you to have an Advanced score on your Sign Language Proficiency Interview. You can get your SLPI set up with Deb Stone. Her email is harisrequest [at] gmail [dot] com.

Before you apply, please e-mail me and let me know any questions you may have. Also, let me know of your intent to apply in this program, or in future cohorts. Also, please let me know if you wish me to remove you from the contact list.

I look forward to having you as a part of the WOU family!
