(Article) A win for the DHH, a first for Jincy the Elf!

The 4J School District is one of the few districts in Oregon that has a deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) program.

Recently during a Zoom session, a second grader signed, "Is Jincy the Elf coming to visit us this year?"

Jincy the Elf is an educational assistant who is deaf and uses sign language. Every year, she dresses up as an elf and surprises DHH students at Valley River Center for the "Annual Holiday Social" where she treats them to hot chocolate, Cinnabon and a visit to Santa.

This event provides a unique opportunity for DHH students to socialize with others who are deaf and hard of hearing like them. But because of COVID-19, many of our students are worried they will miss Jincy the Elf this year.

Instead of our annual gathering at the Valley River Center, Jincy the Elf will be joining students virtually on Zoom.

Our local elementary school, Spring Creek Elementary, will host this special virtual event for deaf and hard of hearing students from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10.

This will be a first for Jincy the Elf!
