First Friday Art Walk featuring Jorge Martinez
Friday, May 4, 2018
5:30pm - 8:00pm

Please join Pacific University in the First Friday Art Walk! Students and artists from around Lane County will be featured at the Downtown Eugene campus, including Eugene's own Jorge Martinez! Jorge is the first Deaf artist to be featured at Pacific University, so let's show our full support!

Jorge's exhibition will be unique, as his artist's statement will be recorded in American Sign Language (ASL) with an English voice over and captions. Additionally, his artist statement will be translated into Lingua de Senas Mexicana (LSM) with a voice over in Spanish and captions. This method provides access to a large variety of art enthusiasts!

Fast facts:

Q: Who can come?
A: Anyone! It is free and open to the public. You do not have to be a student at Pacific to attend the event

Q: When is the event?
A: Friday, May 4th. Drop in hours from 5:30-8:00pm. Jorge will be there the full time

Q: Will there be an ASL interpreter?
A: Yes, for Jorge. Unfortunately we were only able to reserve one for him and not for other Deaf/HH guests who want to look at other exhibits. I'm sorry! :(

Q: This is the same time as Sign and Dine!
A: First, that is not a question. Second, yes it is the same time, but considering this is a drop in event, you could say hi to Jorge, then go out to eat at Dickie Joes. Or you could get a burger and then go say hi to Jorge.

Q: I am blind. How can I enjoy Jorge's artwork?
A: Jorge's artist statement recording includes a voice over image description in English and in Spanish of the pictures on display.

Q: I use a wheelchair. Is Pacific's campus accessible?
A: Yes, there is an elevator. Call the main office (541) 485-6812 for directions on how to access the elevator.

Q: Hablo español solamente ¿Puedo venir también?
A: ¡Sí! La declaración del artista de Jorge está grabada en español.

Q: Is there other art I can look at other than at Pacific University?
A: Yes! Other stops include Framing & Gallery (411 W 4th Ave), The Lincoln Gallery (309 W 4th Ave), The New Zone Gallery (220 W 8th Ave),MAVEN (271 W 8th Ave), and Passionflower Design (128 E Broadway).

Any questions, please contact Katelyn or call the main office (541) 485-6812.

Thank you!
