As a member of the Oregon Association of the Deaf (OAD), you are committed to ensuring that our community flourishes in all areas, including education, economics, health and wellbeing, and social justice. Thriving in the OAD means:

  • Amplifying the voice of the Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, and those with additional disabilities and intersectional identities to make sure solutions to our most pressing issues are equitable
  • Working with activists and organizers in the Deaf community
  • Supporting access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities
  • Organizing marches, rallies, and direct action campaigns to bring attention to local issues
  • Attending state-wide and local events, and trainings to sharpen your advocacy and leadership skills

The benefits to being an individual or organizational affiliate include but is not limited to:

  • Representation at the state and local level on legislative and government issues
  • Representation for national national civil rights (National Association of the Deaf) to continue to fight for the advancement of civil rights on national level
  • Resourceful website on issues and resources for anyone looking for information related to the deaf and hard of hearing community
  • Invitation to local events and national conferences, with opportunities to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
  • Opportunities to interact with members at events and online via social media
  • Invitation to join various committees, task forces, and strategic teams to hep shape the OAD agenda
  • Opportunity to join special interest membership sections
  • Opportunity to submit motions and bylaws amendments prior to the annual general meetings (including discussion and voting privileges on motions, resolutions, priorities, bylaws amendments, and electing the board of directors positions that are open)
